Escondido boasts the new California Center for the Arts, a civic center-sized concert hall. The Center has identified Escondido as the center of Inland North County. The city has a regional mall (North County Fair) and the large Escondido Promenade center. Every conceivable retail store is in this area.
The downtown area lies just east of Interstate 15. Town boundaries are irregular and include hillside residential areas. Renters almost equal the number of home owners. San Diego Wild Animal Park is just outside the city's eastern edge. The Vineyard at Escondido is the new city golf course. The area has many parks and recreational facilities, including a state-of -the-art ice rink.
