Nestor, a neighborhood on the southern city limits of San Diego, was created around 1893 during the time of the southwestern land boom. The community was named after San Diego's harbormaster, Nestor A. Young. After the boom, residential dwellings replaced farmland but today many of the farms, stables, and citrus groves remain.
The U.S. and Mexican border is less than 10 miles away via Interstate 5. Housing structures show a Mexican influence, though there is a variety of architectural styles and housing options throughout the community. Other features include three community parks, the Tijuana border and Southline trolley service. Nearby communities include Chula Vista, Palm City, and Otay Mesa.
