Lemon Grove takes its name from the lemon orchards planted in the late 1800s. The fruit is honored with a large Lemon monument in the center of the commercial district, near the trolley tracks. This four-square-mile community is bordered by State Route 94, Sweetwater Road, Canton Drive, and 69th Street. The commercial center of Lemon Grove can be found along a 3-mile stretch of Broadway Avenue, with a mix of retail chains and family businesses.
Residential neighborhoods, rural areas without sidewalks, and mint-condition properties are characteristic of this area. Housing prices are favorable for first-time homebuyers. Located only eight miles from downtown San Diego, it can be described as a community with small-town flavor. Lemon Grove offers an art complex, a theater, a senior centers, parks, a recreation center, soccer, softball, baseball, and football for both children and adults.
